Renting a beach chair in Wenningstedt
On Sylt a Strandkorb is not a piece of furniture, it is your base for the day: sheltered from the wind, with sun, a view and room for a book, coffee and a nap. Here is how renting works in Wenningstedt – and why our guests do not have to pay for one.

During the beach chair season our guests have free use of beach chair 2330 at Onkel Johnny's on Wenningstedt beach – no surcharge, no daily queueing at the rental hut. You simply walk up, give the chair number and sit down.
What does a beach chair on Sylt cost?
Prices are set by the beach chair operators of each municipality and change every year. Typical figures on the west coast:
- Daily rate: roughly €12–16 per chair
- Weekly rate: roughly €70–100
- Seasonal rate: several hundred euros, usually with a fixed chair number
A week of summer holiday quickly adds up to around €100 – money you save as our guest. The rental hut on the beach will give you the current, binding rates.
Season and practicalities
- The beach chair season usually runs from around Easter to mid or late October.
- During the summer holidays chairs are taken early on fine days – a weekly rate pays off.
- Chairs can be turned: east in the morning, towards the sunset in the afternoon.
- Never leave valuables in the chair, though most chairs can be locked.
The beach in Wenningstedt
From Horsa Hüs on Westerlandstraße it is only a few minutes' walk to Wenningstedt's main beach with its promenade, beach chair rental and restaurants. To the north the cliff line leads towards Kampen, to the south the beach continues towards Westerland.
